Our May Sketch

Happy May Day everyone!  To start off the month, we have brand new sketch for you.   This sketch was created by our design team member Nadia Cannizzo.

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

You do not need to be a member of C'est Magnifique to participate in our sketch challenge.  It is open to anyone!  You are welcome to use any supplies you have, but if you are the winner and it is obvious that you used any one of our kits - the prize will be DOUBLED!!!

The winner of the challenge, selected by a random draw, will win a $10 gift certificate (or $20, as mentioned above if you use a kit) from C'est Magnifique which you can use to shop in our store

As an added bonus, from the entries for this challenge, we will select a few layouts to "feature".  One of the featured layouts will receive this beautiful La Blanche Victorian Swirl stamp from C'est Magnifique.

Here are some layouts that our design team created using the sketch and the May Kit and Add-ons:

"SHE" by Nadia Cannizzo
This is a layout about my eldest daughter and her oldest cousin. She is so lucky to have her, because she is a really good girl and looks after her really well. Maria, responds to her so nicely and they just get along and give me a bit of a break especially we we go out ! LOL!

* I inked the chipboard cage with the Prima mask and white ink to give it more detail.
* The flowers were inked with the Smimmerz ink from the main kit to blend them in together.
* I doubled up the banner from the 7Dots Stickers in the add on, with a banner paper punch from my stash.

"THUMBS UP" by Leslie Kammerdiener
This is Kevin when we went to Los Angelos a while ago. The one thing you can always count on with Kevin is the 'thumb's up' sign - he's been doing it since he was a teenager and I'm so glad that he continues using this action; no matter how hard his life is.

"SING" by Valerie Serfozo
I wanted to try out a new lens recently and focused on this little bird that looks like he's singing. I decided to base the colors on the layout based on the little bit of orange in his feathers. The white Teresa Collins flower was a little larger than I wanted, so I used Beverly's tip to remove a few layers. I zapped it with my heat gun, which made it easy to remove some of the bottom layers. I also made the Manor House orange flower smaller by removing the bottom two layers. I painted the birdhouse using some gold paint.

"SUZANNE" by Fi Kenward
I used a photo of my mum, not sure how old she was and tried to pull the yellow colour from the papers by using the Theresa Collins packing. I sanded off the printed contents and thought it worked it beautifully with the page. I also spritzed the applique with glimmer mist to blend. The bird cage was an awesome accent to work with but I didn't want to lose it by cover my photo with it so I opted to use it this way instead.

"ONE" by Erin Blegen
I created this layout for my adorable little nephew, River. He just recently celebrated his first birthday- and I just cannot resist a sweet cake face!  SO- I started out by layering some papers to create a distressed, textured background. Now, I definitely like to get the most out of my paper, so when I layer one paper on top of the other, I cut out the backs and use them either to create another smaller layer on top or as scrap bits elsewhere on the page. That is what I did here- even though it appears as if I've used several sheets of paper. To alter the chipboard birdcage and letters, I first painted them with gesso, then used my finger to add some of the Shimmerz paint included in the kit, followed by touching it up by brushing on some pink & sandy-colored ink. I also used the Shimmerz paint & some gesso to alter the large Teresa Collins flower, and even more gesso to dress up the additional flowers, chipboard pieces, and gems. In the end, I created a piece that has just as much "frosting" as the handsome little fellow in the photo.
Now it's your turn.  Please use the tool below to submit your layout.  We look forward to seeing what you create.  Remember, you have the entire month of May to work on this.

Meet our May Guest Designer

We have the pleasure of having Ingrid Gooyer as our guest designer this month.   Here's a little bit about her:

My name is Ingrid Gooyer and I live in Zaandam, a place in the Netherlands. I'm married to a wonderful husband, Rob and together we have two beautiful daughters, Tessa and Yiscka. Started scrapbooking in 2006 and now I just can't imagine my life without it!

We have all been amazed by Ingrid's layouts.  She has such a distinctive style.  Here's a look at how Ingrid used our May kit:

I guess I drive them crazy when I take my camera,.....again!  When they are in a good mood and want to please mom, I make sure to take lots of photo's for at least a dozen pages!

US
Hi all! Here is another page with this gorgeous kit.  Used my finger to paint the background with the shimmerz. How much fun was that!  Cut up the big white flower to make the little bouquet under the photo. Just folded the leaves and tucked in the lace.  Thought it looked like a nice little bridal touch with a wink to our belated honeymoon!  Also cut the lace because I loved the heart shapes.  Used a flower punch to make the flowers.

Photo is of me and my hubby on our vacation to Greece last year.  Now that our girls are older and have their own vacations, Rob and I really enjoy our trips together.  It's like the honeymoon we never had when we were married!  We just love Greece: the weather, the people, the scenery, the food, all perfect!

May Kit Sneak Peeks from Beverly and Erin

Hi everyone.  Today is the last day we will be posing sneak peeks of our May kit.  But that's not all bad news because next week will be the reveal.  We will be releasing photos of our beautiful May kit, along with close-ups of the embellishments.

We have two layouts to share today, but let me warn you, these layouts are SO very different from each other.  You'll have a difficult time believing that they were created with the same kit!  But we feature them in the same post to show the extreme versatility of this beautiful paper from 7 Dots Studio.  You can have a soft, subtle background or a splash of color, depending on which side of the paper you use.  Here we go with the last 2 peeks:

"I Do" by Beverly Sams

I have SO many cousins and I love them all dearly. They are each beautiful to me in their own way and I wish for all of them every happiness in the world. This layout shows the promise of such happiness for one of them! I really like the doilies and lace that looks so dimensional on these 7 Dots papers, so I decided to play that up and pile on the romantic flowers and flourishes. The white lace in the kit was spritzed with Walnut Gold Glimmer Mist and accented with the Dress It Up flats (Tuscon) included. I inked and embossed the Dusty Attic chipboard with UTEE and inked the papers with Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

"King" by Erin Blegen

This stalwart little fellow is my one and only rooster, Rusty. He is an Old English Game bantam, and he might be small but he's definitely king of the yard! His coloring is so beautiful and when I looked at this photo I recently took of him, I immediately knew which papers I wanted to use to scrap it.

Believe it or not, I only used two sheets of paper to create the multiple layers included in this layout. After cutting my main circle, I tore along the outline of the circle shape left in the paper from which I'd cut it, and layered it behind that main circle. After placing both circle shapes on top of another paper, I used what was left from the paper from which my circles came, and layered THAT behind my second sheet- if that makes any sense! Then lots of distressing and stitching add to the rustic feel I wanted to accomplish.

I used the Prima mask included in the embellishment add-on, along with some paint, to create the white floral design along the lower half of my main circle- although, as happens quite often, much of it got covered up! I also used much of my most favorite medium- gesso- to play down some of the colors to create a cohesive arrangement with my flowers. Finally, my frames and tags were cut from the Prima journaling cards also included with the embellishment add-on.
