A Tutorial for You

Before Joyce Lawrence joined the design team (beginning with our August kit), she was a member of C'est Magnifique, and was working with the July kit and Add-ons.  She made some amazing invitations using the kit and was kind enough to create a tutorial.  I'm sure you will love it!

Vintage Shoe Tutorial by Joyce Lawrence

My niece was graduating from high school and we were having a little party with her and her closest friends.  When I saw the pretty colors and the Pink Paislee collage sheets, I knew I had to make some invitations for the party with the kit.   I made the front pocket of the shoe large enough to stuff fun goodies in and a cash gift card. I was really happy with the final product and have decided I’d like to add to the collection with scraps of my future kits.

The template to the vintage shoes is at the bottom of this post.

In addition to your pattern papers to make your vintage shoes, you’ll need the following:

Tools:

Shoe Embellishments:
(additionally you may wish to include some lace
to be used on the top of the upper shoe as shown in the final picture below).

Directions:

1. Sole Cut outs: You’ll need two soles (bottom portion of the shoe) but before cutting them, please read on. Cut one sole of the shoe using the scallop scissors on one of the pieces, and on the other piece, slightly fold it vertically without completely putting a seam down the middle and cut approximately one-quarter of one inch around the edges so that it looks like the example below.

Top portion of shoe: Cut the top portion of the shoe and fold each side behind it making certain the scalloped edges of the upper portion match each side of the folded part and on top of the shoe pattern. You can see the folds in example #2, and in item #3 is an example of how the top portion should look after it’s folded.

2. Glue the two soles together as shown below. The back of the upper part of the shoe should be folded as shown below and glued.

3. Decorate your upper shoe by adding the leaves, pearls, flowers and lace as show in item
# 4 below. Although there is a buttery fly punch shown in my tools picture, I did not use it on this particular shoe.

4. Punch a hold on the sole of the shoe and weave your ribbon as shown below. If you would like to add a tag to write your sentiment, stamp a pattern on paper, cut it out around the stamp to make certain you have enough space to write your sentiment, and attach it to the ribbon. I also distress the edges of the tag.

5. Flip the sole around and apply glue at the bottom of the sole as shown below.

6. Carefully slip the sole inside the upper portion of the shoe and hold the sole down onto the bottom piece of the upper shoe. Hold it for a minute to make certain it adheres properly. Voila! Fill goodies, gift card, etc. inside the shoe.

Design Team News

It's always difficult when a design team member rotates off the team.  We have really enjoyed having Fi Kenward on our team for the past four months.  Fi is a really fantastic designer - full of individuality and style; one that will be sorely missed in the gallery!  She will be so missed, but we hope she sticks around as we have all come to love her as a person.  You will want to keep an eye on her blog as we are quite sure she is destined for great things!

It is now our pleasure to introduce Joyce Lawrence (joycekers) to you.   We had asked Joyce to step in a while ago and from that day on she became active in both the forums and the gallery.  She also has a unique style; full of elegance and sophistication.  Joyce will begin creating with our August kit and we're sure you will love her style.  Here's a little bit more about Joyce.  We hope you will join us in welcoming Joyce to C'est Magnifique!

Greetings from sunny Southern California.   A few years ago, I took up modern scrapbooking as we know it today when I became the caretaker of some very old family photos, and I wanted to preserve them and tell my family’s story.  This quest has ignited in me an insatiable appetite for procuring papers, chipboard, notions and trims, and it has allowed me to incorporate all my past hobbies of photography, watercolor painting, needlecrafts, beading, and other crafting hobbies on a 12 x 12 piece of paper.

One of my philosophy’s in life is to romance the ordinary by adding some elements of elegance where I can. Sipping lemonade out of my best crystal glassware while scrapping seems to make the lemonade taste better.  And, with that same philosophy, I try to add scraps of elegance to my pages as well.  I’m looking forward to getting to know you, learning new things from you, and if I’m able to inspire or teach you something, I would derive much pleasure from doing so.

It's Give Away Time - Bits & Pieces

There's nothing better than winning something, and we're going to give you a chance to do that.  Leslie (the owner of C'est Magnifique) has gathered everything she has remaining from her July Kit, "Sweet Summer Days", and she's giving it away to one of our blog readers.

The July Kit features paper from Inkido (a Swedish manufacturer) and a couple of sheets from Teresa Collins (USA) for contrast.  Here's a look at what we're giving away which includes items from the kit, the flower add-on, and the embellishment add-on.   Please note that since this is Leslie's "Bits & Pieces", you will receive partial packages of embellishments and some of the paper will be less than full sheets.

We are giving you a chance to win everything pictured above, and we will ship it  anywhere in the world!

What do you need to do to enter the give-away?

1.  You must be a follower of our blog.  If you do not already follow us, just click on the "Join this site" button on the left sidebar and you'll be all set.  The winner of this challenge must be a follower of our blog.
2.  Use the Inlinkz tool at the bottom of this post.

The contest will close at midnight, July 12.  The winner, selected by a random draw, will be announced on July 13.  Good luck to all of you!

July Sketch Challenge

Once again this month we are featuring a sketch designed for C'est Magnifique
by Nadia Cannizzo, a member of our design team.  Lots of wonderful layering here!

We hope you will show us what you can do with this sketch.
You do not need to be a member of C'est Magnifique kits
to participate in the sketch challenge.
It's open to anyone and you may use any supplies you wish.
But, since we are a kit club, there is an added incentive to use one of our kits
to create your sketch layout (which I will explain below).

We will be offering 2 prizes this month.  One winner from all entries (selected randomly) will receive a large prize package valued at a minimum of $40.  The winner will also
be able to purchase anything from our Store and have it shipped free
with their prize package - anywhere in the world!  Here's a look at what Leslie has put together for this month's prize which includes a full line of paper from the
Fabscraps "Victoria" collection.  You will also receive items from Manor House, Dusty Attic, Le Blanche, Melissa Francis, 7 Gypsies, and more!

Because we are a kit club, our second prize is $10 gift certificate to the C'est Magnifique Store that will be randomly awarded to someone who obviously uses one of our kits to create their layout.  This is our way of saying "thank you" to our members.

We will also be "featuring" 5 layouts at the end of the month.

What do you have to do to enter our sketch challenge?

1.  You must become a follower of our blog.  If you're already a follower, we thank you!
It's easy to become follower, just look for this on the left side our blog.

2.  Complete a layout using the sketch, and add it to our blog using the Inlinkz tool below.

Deadline for entering the sketch challenge is midnight, July 31 (US time).

And here is a closer look at the beautiful kit embellishments
and some of the details in the paper.

We have lots going on this week, so be sure to check back.  Tomorrow we will be posting
