Design Team Layouts - Day 3 - Camilla and Valerie

You have until the 12th (tomorrow) to enter our September Bits & Pieces Give-Away.  It's not a challenge.........we have Leslie's bits & pieces from her Setpember kit to give away to one of our blog readers.  If you haven't signed up, click on the link in our left sidebar (and you can enter your name twice this month!

Okay, back to some inspiration for you from "Fly Away", our September kit.  Let's start with a layout from Camilla.

"Lycka" by Camilla Ekman

I tried to combine the soft, delicate flowers with the joyful banner to create a sense of happiness, which is the title of this page. The happiness that my daughter feels
when riding her horse at riding camp this summer.

"Great Love" by Valerie Serfozo

Of all the beautiful papers in this month's kit, this one was my favorite. I just love the subtle background on this smoky purple paper. This little guy is my nephew, Keegan.
He is about to turn one already and is the baby of the family.  I used several shades of Copic markers to color the pearl flourish. The precious quote on the title banner reads
"Where there is great love, there are always wishes".

Up tomorrow are layouts from Leslie and Erin.  You won't want to miss them!

Day 2 of Design Team Layouts - Joyce & Beverly

Our current giveaway and sketch challenge links are in the left sidebar.

***************************

We are back today with two more looks at our September kit, "Fly Away".  We know you'll love how these designers have used the kit.

"Aunt Lou" by Joyce Lawrence

I so loved using this kit and it had the perfect elements to let me create a page of my beloved Great Aunt Lou. I've been waiting to scrap this and here she is wearing her apron, taking a break and reading the newspaper. I used a Design Honey sketch and it was almost effortless creating this page. The Dusty Attic chippie was embossed with a folder, misted, inked and liquid pearls was applied to finish it off.

"Up, Up, and Away" by Beverly Sams

This is one of the sons of the girl in my “Sibs” layout. I used the bottom portion of the Want2Scrap Bonnie’s Birdcage, flipped upside down, rounded off the corners and make a balloon out of it. I used an embossing folder on it, sprayed pretty heavily with the Lindy’s Stamp Gang Moon Shadow Mist in Smoky Sapphire which was also used on the Manor House Creations “Imagine” cocoa flower. I love how the mist takes to darker paper and makes the shimmer more pronounced. I used Distress embossing powder on the Leaky Shed ornate corner chipboard for the bottom part of the balloon. Several different colors of distress ink were used on the Heidi Swapp resist banners.

We are half way through our design team inspiration using our September Kit.  Tomorrow we'll be back with layouts from Camilla and Valerie.

Design Team Layouts by Helen and Nadia

For the next four days we're going to be showing you some layouts from our amazing design team using the September Kit "Fly Away".

"Todo!" by our Guest Designer Helen Tilbury

I know what you're thinking! What on earth does Todo mean? Well I don't know either! It's the term of endearment my daughter and her best friend use with each other - they call each other Todo and they won't tell anyone why - it's really cute!!   I printed out a couple of the same photo for this layout, so I could do a trendy overlap - really draws attention to a fabulous photo.   I fanned out some Prima & Heidi Swapp packaging behind it (all from the add-on packaging) & used a plastic vintage doily as a mask behind my photo fan.   Instead of mist I used ink with my stencil this time as it creates a neater & richer effect. These papers are such great quality that I used a lot of torn strips here to show off the white core, which I then inked with several co-ordinating colors. Making my lace flower was easy as I used a gluber (giant glue dot) & simply folded it around into a circle then plonked a couple of blooms on top, inked and gessoed to blend in nicely.

"Big Brown Eyes" by Nadia Cannizzo

The purple in this collection is so beautiful. Just soft and pretty! The purple Kaisercraft blooms also complemented these papers so beautifully.

We hope you enjoyed these two totally different looks using our September Kit.  Check back tomorrow when we will be featuring Beverly and Joyce.

Layouts from our Design Team

Today we're back to show you some layouts from our design team using the September Kit, "Fly Away".  We still have a few kits available in the store.  This kit features the beautiful Huntington Garden line from Riddersholm Design.

"This Makes My Heart Soar" by Erin Blegen

There's no doubt about it, my boys are ALL BOY! They are beautiful, sweet children- but they can fight with the best of them- and they can do it ALL.DAY.LONG!  However, it's moments like this one that really turns my heart to mush...it makes me hopeful of the day that they love each other as much as they love to fight with each other now, lol!

"Sibs" by Beverly Sams

"Dream" by Camilla Ekman

I got a bit artistic when I made this page. I started by creating the background with the brick mask and gesso and added some of the mist from the main kit. Then I built a frame around the photo by using stamps and flowers.

Background Tutorial

Design team member Joyce Lawrence created this layout, "BFF", as an example for our                    September Sketch Challenge

Here's my take on that darling sketch.  The background was created with white cardstock, mask, stamp, ink, tea bag, water spray, glossy accents and the two colors spray mists from our kit. The glossy accent pebbles were accentuated with a light brown water color pencil.
I went a little overboard with those glossy accent pebbles, but I was having too much
fun making them.

Joyce is nowgoing to show us how she created the background for this layout, using the September Kit, Fly Away, and items from her stash.

Supplies:
White Cardstock
Lindy’s Stamp Gang : Canna Lily Burnt Orange Starburst, and Smoky Sapphire Moon Shadow Mist
Script Stamp
Brown Ink
Crafter’s Workshop Medallion Mask or whatever you have in your stash
Glossy Accents
Waterbrush or Q-tips
Light Brown Watercolor Pencil
Jar lid or a bowl.
Water spray bottle
Tea bag

Step 1.  Here’s what your white card stock should look like after you have applied the mask/stencil .  You will need to start misting very lightly with your Starburst and in a few areas, and you will need to apply the Starburst heavier in other areas. Set aside to dry, or use your heating tool.  Once the paper has dried, lightly spray with water over the cardstock keeping some areas dry (you will need to preserve some of the hard lines from your original Starburst spraying). Again, set aside to dry.

Step 2.  Pour about a tablespoon of the Moon Shadow Mist in a jar lid or bowl, and add about two tablespoons of water to dilute the mixture.  Of course, if you wish your tea bag technique to be a darker tone, add less water, or more Moon Shadow Mist.  Saturate your tea bag in water then drop it in the lid or bowl of your mixture and swirl the tea bag around to pick up all the mixture.  Then hold the soggy tea bag up high over your cardstock paper and throw it down hard.  If you do this correctly, you will get those spatter marks from the tea bag.  Do this several times on the cardstock and refill your mist and water mixture as needed.  Keep in mind that you will want to have a lot of the white cardstock showing, so don’t go overboard with all the fun of throwing down the tea bag. Set aside to dry.

Step 3.  Ink up your script stamp and apply the stamp over various areas of the cardstock.  I normally keep some wet wipes close by to clean up the inked stamp when I want to reapply in various areas on the cardstock.

Step 4:  Making pebbles.  Using your Glossy Accents, carefully create circles with the product and set aside to dry according to the products instructions. I normally hold the product at an angle and get the point to touch the cardstock and just squeeze the product out until I get the size and shape of the pebble that I like.  Make sure the Glossy Accents dry thoroughly before you go on to the next step.

Step 5:  Enhancing the pebbles.  Using a light brown watercolor pencil, draw a complete circle as close to the pebble as you can get.  On the bottom side of the pebble, lightly apply a thicker coat of the pencil in a half moon shape.  When you’re done applying the watercolor pencil, take your filled water brush, or wet Q-tip and lightly go over the areas where you applied the watercolor pencil. The color should spread very nicely, and if you do this correctly, it will enhance your pebbles. You may choose to add more water to the area to soften the color if the color comes out too harsh.

Here’s a pic of the unfinished pebble:

Thanks so much, Joyce, for sharing your creative process with us!
